Flight Sergeant Peter Henry Alderton was a pilot

13 May 1943, he and his crew,

took off at 00.05 in Lancaster W4269-QR from
their base Syerston. Their target was Duisburg.
The Lancaster was hit by flak and crashed at
02.06 into the zuiderzeepark in Amsterdam.
The whole crew perished and are buried at the
Amsterdam New Eastern Cemetery. F/S Alderton
was 21.
He
is buried in a communal grave with his
navigator, Sgt Robert Sloan, in Plot 69. Row C. Coll.
