Flight Sergeant Peter Henry Alderton was a pilot on Lancaster bombers with 61 Sqn.

On 13 May 1943, he and his crew, which consisted of

P/O J V O Wood RCAF
Sgt W J Reid RCAF
Sgt C D Whitehall
Sgt J Thomas

took off at 00.05 in Lancaster W4269-QR from their base Syerston. Their target was Duisburg.

The Lancaster was hit by flak and crashed at 02.06 into the zuiderzeepark in Amsterdam.

The whole crew perished and are buried at the Amsterdam New Eastern Cemetery. F/S Alderton was 21.

He is buried in a communal grave with his navigator, Sgt Robert Sloan, in Plot 69. Row C. Coll. grave 10.
