Albert Marvell was born to Albert and Sarah Emily Marvell and was from Foxton, Leicestershire.

He wireless operator / air gunner with the R.A.F. He had just finished a operational tour with 103 squadron, when he was posted to 20 Operational Unit for an extended 'rest period' and to train new aircrews.

On 26 May 1942 he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal for completing an operational tour.

Just arrived at 20 O.T.U. based at Elgin, he was tasked to fly an operational mission on 1 June 1942. This was a 1,000 bomber mission to Essen for which all available aircraft and aircrews were deployed.

20 Operational Training Unit

20 O.T.U. dispatched thirteen Wellington bombers. It was to be Flight Sergeant's Marvell's last mission. His bomber probably crashed into the North Sea, the only bomber to be lost by 20 O.T.U. this night.

F/S Marvell's body washed ashore on the Dutch coast and was buried in Bergen Military Cemetery.

Flight Sergeant Marvell was 27 and is buried at Plot 1. Row B. Grave 28.
