Joseph Arthur Boyd was born to Joseph and Jane Ann Boyd, of Watcombe, Devon.

He was a Gunner with the The 115th Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery. The 115th was one of the twenty-two H.A.A. regiments attached to 21 Army Group, commanded by General Bernard Law Montgomery.

Gunner Boyd lost his life on 16 May 1945, ten days after the German capitulation. It is not know how he lost his life but as he is buried in Castricum it is assumed he was lost at sea.

Gunner Joseph Arthur Boyd was 21 and is buried at Plot G. Coll. grave 19.
