Cecil Herbert Hurle was a wireless operator/air gunner with 102 Squadron, flying out of RAF Pocklington, Yorkshire.

102 Squadron

On 12 May 1943 they took off at 23.51 from their base in a Halifax II JB799 DY-E for a mission to Duisburg, Germany.

Their Halifax was lost over the North Sea to an unknown cause. The whole crew perished. Three of the crew are buried, the others are commemorated at the Runnymede Memorial.

P/O Moffat is buried at Sage War Cemetery in Germany. Sgt Gowen is buried at Kiel War Cemetery, Germany.

Sgt Cecil Hurle's body washed ashore on the Dutch coast and is buried at Castricum Protestant Churchyard, Plot J. Coll. grave 7.
