Alfred Edward Gibbons

Alfred Edward Gibbons was born in 1899 or 1900, the of Henry and Elizabeth Gibbons, of Brixton, London. He was married to Isabella Gibbons. They had a son, named Joe.

Alfred joined the army and was attached to 181 Field Artillery Regiment. It is that that  Alf was Batman to Capt WM Matthews. Capt. Bill Matthews was the Regimental Adjutant, attached to HQ. Consideration was given to older men with families and children, and if possible they would be given a job out of harms way.

Unfortunately this did not prevent Alfred from harm. He died in an accident on 2 November 1944. The exact circumstances of his death are not known.

Gunner Alfred Gibbons is buried at Nederweert War Cemetery, grave II. B. 2.
