    S.S. Pacific

The cargo ship S.S. Pacific was part of Convoy FS 33 that consisted of 18 ships sailing from Sunderland to London. Apparently S.S. Pacific had a cargo of Coal. It left Sunderland on 7 February 1943, but was reported missing in bad weather the next night. It is believed it foundered in a gale or hit a mine. Also missing went the H.M. Tug Brightlingsea. H.M.S. Wolsey went to look for them at daylight but could not find them within twelve miles of the rear of convoy.

The body of Able Seaman Allenby was possible found in the North Sea and brought to land in the Netherlands. According to the grave register of Alkmaar General Cemetery, Allenby died on 23 February 1943 and was buried on 23 March 1943. Both these dates do not fit with the date the S.S. Pacific was lost. It is possible that Able Seaman Allenby was found on one of these days. he is buried in Alkmaar General Cemetery.

Third Officer Arthur Bailey and Able seaman John Benson, also from the S.S. Pacific, washed upon the shore of the Dutch island of Vlieland and are buried there.
