Ian Arthur Bullivant was born in 1917 to Arthur Wilfred and Vernita Gladys Bullivant of Hammersmith, London.

He was with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and became operational early in the war. He became a pilot on Blenheim bombers, with 18 'Burma' Squadron flying out of Oulton in Norfolk.

The squadron was primarily used in anti-shipping missions off the Dutch coast.

On 9 June 1941 F/s Bullivant and his crew went on a anti-shipping mission off the Dutch island of Ameland. Their Blenheim was one of six. At least three Blenheims attacked a convoy in the designated area. Two of the Blenheims failed to return. F/S Bullivant's plane crashed onto the mudlands off the Groningen coast near Anjum.

His body was recovered and buried in Anjum Protestant Cemetery, Row 6. Grave 12. He was 24.
