David Thomson Stanner was from Galashiels, Selkirkshire, son of John and Annie Stenners.

He was an wireless operator/air gunner with 15 O.T.U. (Operational Training Unit), operating out of Harwell in Berkshire. Sgt Stanners and his crew, consisting of Sgt James Leather (Pilot), Sgt John Oliver (Observer), Sgt Harry Bloor (second pilot), Sgt Ronald Fage (Wireless Operator) and Sgt Gordon Lake were being trained for service overseas.

On 25 June 1942, they took off at 22.44 hours form their base Harwell in Wellington DV935. Their target was the German city of Bremen.

It is assumed they crashed off the Dutch coast. Most of the crew are buried in Harlingen. Sgt Fage is buried in Bergen-Op-Zoom and Sgt Lake is still missing and commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.

Sgt Stanners is buried in Hallum. His body was recovered near Hallum on 12 July 1942.

He was 21. He is buried in Row 32, Grave 1B.
