Benjamin C. Shaub

Benjamin C. Shaub was born on 11 October, 1921, and lived in Marticville, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.

Not much is known about Benjamin. He joined the army and volunteered for the paratroopers. After training he was attached to Company F, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division.

Benjamin participated in the Normandy invasion. On 6 June 1944 he jumped into Normandy. Either on the 6th or 7th, Benjamin singlehandedly attacked a German artillery postion, taking it out, killing several Germans.

Benjamin, now a Sergeant, also participated in operation Market Garden, the combined airborne and ground invasion of Holland. He survived almost the whole mission. He died on 7 Novemebr 1944 of wounds sustained, probably two days earlier.

Benjamin was first buried at Margraten American Cemetery. In the late 1940's his remains were reburied at Bethesda United Methodist Cemetery, Holtwood, Pennsylvania.
