Arvill D. Barlow

Not much is known about Arvill D. Barlow. According to his enlistmentcard, he was born in 1914 and lived in Cass County, Texas. He was the son of Chester and Lillie Barlow and had three siblings, Eloise, Lula and Aubrey. He attended Smyrna High School.

He joined the army in Dallas, Texas on 10 February 1941. He had had one year of high school and worked on a farm.

After training at Camp Bowie in Texas, Arvill was attached to the 331st Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division, also named "The Railsplitters".

Arvill was wounded in action in France i n1944 and received his Purple Heart. Later he returned to hus unit.

In April 1945, the 331st IR found itself deep in Germany. Allied armies were closing in on the Elbe river where American and Russian troops would link up. On April 15, the 331st had orders to capture a numbers of towns: 1st Battalion was to seize Badetz, Kameritz, Steckby, Eicholz and Leps. They were not to advance past Eicholz and prtect th edivision's right flank. The 2nd Battalion was to secure Kameritz and attack Hohenlepte on order. 3rd Battalion was kept in Regimental reserve.

Below is a copy of the original After Action Reports that describe the action in which Pfc Barlow lost his life.

Pfc Arvill Barlow is buried at Margraten American Cemetery, Plot E Row 18 Grave 17.
