Arvill was wounded in
action in France i n1944 and received his Purple
Heart. Later he returned to hus unit.
In April 1945, the 331st IR
found itself deep in Germany. Allied armies were
closing in on the Elbe river where American and
Russian troops would link up. On April 15, the
331st had orders to capture a numbers of towns:
1st Battalion was to seize Badetz, Kameritz,
Steckby, Eicholz and Leps. They were not to
advance past Eicholz and prtect th edivision's
right flank. The 2nd Battalion was to secure
Kameritz and attack Hohenlepte on order. 3rd
Battalion was kept in Regimental reserve.
