Martin J. Berry was born in 1924 and was from Portland, Maine. He three brothers and six siters. He graduated from Portland High School where he was on the basketball team.

Martin joined the Army on 10 March 1943 in Portland, Maine. After training he was attached to C Company, 82nd Engineer Combat Battalion.

Not much is known about Martin's time with the 82nd.

He died on 11 December 1944 near Merzenhausen, Germany under unknown circumstances. At least one other engineer was wounded in the attack.
