John H. Seitz was born on 23 March 1923, son of John C. Seitz and Pearl Harrison Seitz. They lived in Lumpkin County, Georgia. His father was a farmer and John probably worked on the farm after he finished grammar school.

John had five brothers and two sisters. He enlisted into the army on 12 July 1944 at Fort McPherson, Atlanta, Georgia.

After training he was attached to 329th Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division.

Not much is known about John's time with the 83rd.

John was killed on 5 April 1945 near Schieder, Germany. The circumstances of his death are not known.

Ironically, John was killed exactly a year after his his brother, Clifford passed away on 5 April 1944.
