Not much is known
about Norman Cecil Thirkell. He was an Ordinary
Telegraphist with H.M. Motor Minesweeper 39,
Royal Navy.
MMS 39 hit a mine
in the Thames Estuary on 7 August 1941, which
claimed Norman's life. His body washed ashore on
the coast of Texel, where he is buried.
So far only one
other casualty is known, Engineman Viggo Jensen.
