Johannes Arie Nieuwenhuijzen was born on 16 October 1911 in Kamperland. He was engaged to Annie de Regt. He lived at Wissenkerke.

Nothing is known about him at this time. He was an soldier attached to 1st platoon, 5th Company Machine Gun Anti Aircraft. He was most likely drafted into the service late 1939, early 1940 when the German threat became more real after they had invaded Poland.

stationed at Zoelen, near Tiel.  On 10 May 1940, the day of the German invasion of the Netherlands, Belgium and France, the 5th company shot down a Ju52 transporter plane near Zoelen, killing many of the Germans on board.

The next day, 3rd platoon shot down a Me109, took the pilot prisoner, who spent the rest of the war as a PoW.

Also on the 11th, Pvt Johannes Nieuwenhuijzen and Pvt Ten Haken were killed under unknown circumstances. Pvt Mieuwenhuijzen is buried at Zoelen General Cemetery. He was 28.
