stationed at
Zoelen, near Tiel. On 10 May 1940, the
day of the German invasion of the
Netherlands, Belgium and France, the 5th
company shot down a Ju52 transporter plane
near Zoelen, killing many of the Germans on
board.
The next day,
3rd platoon shot down a Me109, took the
pilot prisoner, who spent the rest of the
war as a PoW.
Also on the
11th, Pvt Johannes Nieuwenhuijzen and Pvt
Ten Haken were killed under unknown
circumstances. Pvt Mieuwenhuijzen is buried
at Zoelen General Cemetery. He was 28.
