History

The 159th Infantry Regiment, as an independent unit, arrived in France on 18 March 1945 and was attached to the 106th Infantry Division throughout the European campaign. It entered Germany on 25 April 1945 and returned to New York on 4 November 1945. It was deactivated a at Camp Shanks, NY on the same date.

Of the nine members of the unit killed and still buried in Europe, four are buried at Margraten American Military Cemetery.
