History
The 44th Cavalry Reconnaissance
Squadron (Mechanized) was activated at Camp Young, California on
December 23, 1943. On September 29, 1944, the 44th left for England from
the N.Y. Port of Embarkation, arriving there on October 10, 1944.
Landing in France on November 26, 1944, the 44th was a part of the 11th
Cavalry Group (Mechanized), XIII Corps, Ninth Army until V-E Day. The
44th arrived back at the N.Y. Port of Embarkation on August 2, 1945.
From there the 44th traveled to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, where it was
deactivated on September 29, 1945.
