FAMILIAR VOICES
By Frank Harbord
First published in
1998 and now in its second edition, "Familiar Voices" is
about the author's wartime experiences flying Blenheim
bombers of No. 2 Group Bomber Command in the UK and Malta in
1940 and 1941 and then in India and Burma after the entry of
Japan into the war.
Shiphunting in the Mediterranean; desperate times in Burma
and the Far East; as aircrew in the Bristol Blenheim Frank
Harbord cheated death many times and saw action throughout
World War II.
As a navigator, seated behind the perspex nose cone of the
Blenheim, Frank was uniquely positioned to witness these
historic events. Later sections of the book also cover
attacks on shipping in order to cut off supplies to Rommel
in North Africa during the terrible siege of Malta and
service against the Japanese in Burma and India.
The book took more than 3 years to write and research and
the author checked out the factual details by reference to
the public records office and other official bodies.
Illustrations include many contemporary photos and
documents. Mr Harbord passed away in 2009 |
